Eating Disorders No Comments »

Especially among the young women in the world today, eating disorders are a serious problem.

Women are constantly being shown pin-thin models who they think that they are supposed to look up to, and so if they are anything over a size 0 they feel that they are not good enough and think that they need to lose weight.

It is obviously ridiculous, but not the girls’ faults and we as a nation really need to stand up and start doing something about this, so that girls realize they really can be any size and be beautiful and happy.

Learn the Signs

Especially if you have a female child yourself, it is going to be very important that you learn how to recognize the symptoms of eating disorders.

This way you could tell if your own child was ever exhibiting the symptoms of eating disorders and make sure that you do something about it right away.

An eating disorder is certainly nothing to mess with, and so as soon as you notice the symptoms of eating disorders, you need to get the child in to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Especially if they are already significantly underweight, there is no time to waste and the results could be fatal if the child is not helped early enough.

There are actually quite a few different symptoms of eating disorders that you may notice. Keep in mind that the signs and symptoms will vary, depending on the particular eating disorder that the person is dealing with.

For anorexia for instance, symptoms commonly include a thin appearance, fatigue, dizziness or fainting, hair that thins or balds, irregular heart rhythms, dehydration, and bone loss.

If you were dealing with someone who had bulimia on the other hand, symptoms of eating disorders here would more likely include abnormal bowel functioning, damaged teeth and gums, swollen salivary glands in the cheeks, sores in the throat and mouth, fatigue, dry skin, irregular heartbeat, and menstrual irregularities.

It can often be hard to tell if symptoms are related to an eating disorder or not, mainly because most of them are so general, and could be related to one of many different conditions, but it is important to look at the emotional aspect of it as well and you should be able to tell whether or not the person has an eating disorder.

If you think that the person does have something wrong, an eating disorder, you are going to need to get them help immediately.
