What are the Eating Disorder Statistics?

Eating Disorders No Comments »

Eating disorder statistics in today’s day and age are truly alarming.

Eating disorder statistics have never been higher than they are now, and this is a very serious problem.

Especially when you take into consideration the fact that the majority of people suffering from eating disorder are young girls, it is quite the dilemma, and something needs to be done about this.

Why?

The big question about many young girls having eating disorders is why.

There are a few different reasons for this, one of the most major being that they see celebrities and models in magazines and on television, and see how skinny they are, and think that this is the way that they need to look in order to be beautiful.

Girls are much more worried about their appearance in general, and typically have less self esteem and confidence than boys do.

Treatment

When you take a look at the eating disorder statistics and see how alarming they are, not to mention the fact that they are only going to continue to get worse, so we need to do something about it now.

More than anything, this means making sure that anyone you know who may be suffering from an eating disorder gets the help that they need to get back to a normal, healthy state.

To deal with the eating disorder statistics as best as possible, you need to be aware of what the different treatment options are for eating disorders.

This is really the only way to deal with eating disorder statistics, which are staggering.

The first step is to find an eating disorder facility that is going to be able to take the person in and help them deal with their problem.

You can use the Internet to find out which facilities are open and available in your general area.

There is the Center for Eating Disorders at St. Joseph Medical Center, Eating Disorders Program and Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital, and the Eating Disorders Treatment Program at the Children’s Hospital, just to name a few.

The most important thing of all is that anyone with an eating disorder stay positive and know that they can get the help that they are looking for and get back to the way that they used to be.

You just need to take advantage of the help that is available for you and make sure that are open and honest about your problem if you want to get better.

The Top Treatments for Eating Disorder Recovery

Eating Disorders No Comments »

Eating disorders are devastating for the sufferers as well as their loved ones.

If you or a loved one desires to go on the path to eating disorder recovery, it’s important to weigh your options.

There are many effective treatment options out there for eating disorder recovery and which path you choose will largely depend on your personal symptoms and severity of the disorder.
Most patients find success with a combination of psychotherapy and nutritional counseling. Depending on the severity of your disorder, you may want to seek outpatient or inpatient treatment.

You can also choose an intensive outpatient treatment if you don’t want to be hospitalized but need to have treatment sessions frequently.
The Importance of Psychotherapy in Eating Disorder Recovery

Psychotherapy is a very important step in eating disorder recovery because it can help you improve your self-esteem, understand the underlying causes of the disorder, and learn healthier ways of responding to stress in your life.

For many people who suffer from eating disorders, their condition worsens during times of stress and emotional pain. Family therapy is also very helpful since eating disorders often affect your family members.
Support groups are very helpful in getting patients on the path to eating disorder recovery because they provide a safe environment for them to share their experiences and coping strategies.

It helps sufferers of eating disorders feel like they have peers to talk to who are suffering from the same problems.

Nutritional Counseling and Eating Disorder Recovery

Nutritional counseling is important during eating disorder recovery in order to teach patients about their nutritional needs and how to maintain a healthy weight.

A nutritionist can help the patient reach realistic dietary goals and plan healthy meals. Nutritionists can also teach patients about the health consequences of eating disorders.

If continued weight loss, resistance to treatment, or severe physical and behavioral problems accompany the symptoms of an eating disorder, residential treatment may be necessary.

Some people are not willing to put themselves through treatment or have other problems that make it difficult to treat them.

In these severe cases, hospitalization is necessary because the condition may become life-threatening.

Make no mistake about it. Holistic treatment is necessary if you want to get on the path to eating disorder recovery.

There are physical and psychological factors involved in eating disorder recovery and treatment so it’s important to make both nutritional counseling and psychotherapy a part of your treatment plan.

By doing so, you will be able to heal and live a healthy, normal life.

Differences Between Women And Men With Eating Disorders

Eating Disorders No Comments »

Eating disorders affect both men and women.

There are some slight differences between women and men with eating disorders but these are not marked differences.

There are many men with eating disorders but the number of which who has come forward to accept or admit that they do have one are lesser than women.

Admitting Having An Eating Disorder

The admission of the fact that one has an eating disorder is one of the differences among women and men with eating disorders.

The reason for this is because of the idea that women are more susceptible to this kind of disorder than men when actually; both are equal in this aspect.

People all over the world seem to think that eating disorders are a female condition and this is the reason why men with eating disorders do not acknowledge that they have one or it does not even occur to them that they are actually suffering from one.

Most people seen to have preconceived ideas that over weight women are not acceptable while overweight men are.

This is another reason why men with eating disorders have no inkling that they have one.

If a woman is slightly overweight she is most likely conscious of her body than men.

Slightly overweight men are tolerated by society and concern is usually expressed only when the make is heading towards obesity.

Men with eating disorders and appear thin are probably the ones who are concerned about their eating habits and may be the ones to bring this concern to fore.

The Importance Of Appearance

Men with eating disorders usually suffer from binge eating or compulsive eating disorder than any other eating disorder.

The reason for this is that many men have the idea that men are really supposed to eat more than women and eating a lot is okay for a man.

There is a trend surfacing here that shows that there is a sexist undertone when it comes to eating disorders and their acknowledgement.

Gay men with eating disorders are more likely to suffer from anorexia or bulimia than compulsive eating disorder because they set great store for their appearance which is a similar trait with most women who succumb to eating disorders.

Men with eating disorders may have a more difficult time admitting to this because they feel inferior or shameful that they are afflicted with a condition that is supposed to be for females.
