Perhaps one of the most difficult things about eating disorders, be it anorexia or bulimia, is accepting it.
If you are suffering from an eating disorder, unless and until you accept and recognize you are anorexic or bulimic, there is really very little you can do to begin your recovery.
The same thing happens if you are the parent or a friend. It is very hard to accept that your child is ill with this type of illnesses - perhaps because of what you think the social reactions can be.
There can easily be a process of denial, but at the end of the day, the earlier you accept and recognize the problem, the easier (without implying it is easy at all) the recovery process will be and the higher the probabilities of a good result.
Whether you are suffering from anorexia or bulimia, or if your child has an eating disorder, avoid the trap of feeling guilty.
Look ahead and find out all you can - there are many sources of information, on-line, in bookstores or with different treatment centers.
One further thing here, accept the fact that you and/or your child needs help. It is no exaggeration to say you need professional help and guidance.
