A simple definition of Anorexia:
Those who suffer from anorexia are obsessed with being thin. They will lose a lot of weight and will fear gaining weight. They believe they are fat even when very thin.
It is an eating disorder characterized especially by a pathological fear of gaining weight which in turn leads to faulty eating patterns, malnutrition, and usually excessive weight loss.
A very important aspect that must be understood of anorexia is that it is an attempt to use food and its relation to weight, as a solution to emotional problems.
The phrase Anorexia nervosa means “loss of appetite of nervous origin “. The main point being the emotional or psychological aspects. Obviously physical health is endangered due to what some have called a process of starvation, but the psychological and emotional aspects are the driving force behind the illness.
Who is at risk?
