Finding Eating Disorder Support

Eating Disorders Add comments

If you or someone you love has an eating disorder, it can seem like you are alone.

No one else understands what you are going through and you feel like you are the only person in the world going through this.

It can be hard to find eating disorder support, but there are many people and places that you or your loved one can turn to.

Individual Therapy

A great eating disorder support is individual therapy. Many insurances will cover this eating disorder support.

Therapy can be useful to talk about the underlying issues to the eating disorder.

Most eating disorders are not caused simply by someone wanting to be thin. Instead, they have a warped body image and even when they are thin, they truly believe that they are morbidly obese and disgusting.

It takes psychological care to get to the bottom of these issues, and therapy can be a great eating disorder support to get down to the bottom of the eating disorder.

In addition, therapy is a great tool because it can also address other issues in the patient’s life.

Many times a patient will have a recovery only to go back to their eating disorder during times of stress or unease.

Individual therapy can help a patient find other means to comfort themselves besides reverting back to their old habits.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is another great eating disorder support.

Group therapy is much like individualized therapy except that it is done in a group. Group therapy is not good for patients who play off of other people’s illnesses, but it is good for someone to see what other people are doing to cope with their eating disorders.

Inpatient Facilities

Sometimes eating disorders are so extreme that the only eating disorder support that is going to help is an inpatient facility.

At an inpatient facility, a patient will get all of the eating disorder support that they need. There will be individualized therapy as well as group therapy.

There will be around the clock eating disorder support as oppose to a few times a week.

In addition, there will be nutritionists and food technicians to help prepare food and help the patient eat it. Doctors and nurses will also be available in case anything goes wrong.

  • If you or a friend are having trouble with an eating disorder, know that there is eating disorder support out there.
  • If you do not feel like you can talk to your parents, talk to another trusted individual.

Whatever you do, find eating disorder support before it is too late.
